Streetz Ahead’s New Youth Board Inspires Change

 

On Friday 3rd July, the new Streetz Ahead Youth Board came together for an inspiring afternoon of creativity, discussion and collaboration. Led by Kayla, Intern Dance Teacher and Mentor, the session created a space for young people to share their ideas, reflect on their experiences and help shape the future of the organisation. 

 

The session began with fun icebreakers, including a name game and ‘Two Truths and a Dream’ which helped our new members build confidence within the room and get to know one another before diving into more collaborative work. The young people shared their thoughts on why youth voice is important, with many describing the Youth Board as “a place to make things better” and highlighting the importance of children and young people being involved in decisions that affect them. Our members recognised that the Youth Board allows Streetz Ahead to listen to young people’s experiences and create services that truly reflect their needs.

 

The group then took part in a brainstorming activity, sharing exciting ideas and plans for the future of Streetz Ahead. Some suggestions included introducing new dance styles such as salsa, contemporary, ballet and tap, alongside singing workshops, talent shows, dance competitions and more opportunities for young people to get involved in social media content and promotion.

Inclusivity was a key focus of the meeting, with young people suggesting more accessible dance opportunities for those with SEND, as well as ideas for residential trips, fundraising events and community performances. The group also discussed becoming Streetz Ahead Ambassadors and reflected on what makes our organisation special. Streetz Ahead was described as a place where they can express themselves through dance, theatre and creativity, while building confidence, friendships and key life skills. Overall, they highlighted the welcoming environment, wide range of opportunities and the feeling of being supported and accepted.

 

The session ended with Kayla sharing next steps for becoming Youth Board Ambassador, including completing biographies, providing photos and signing up to volunteer at upcoming Streetz Ahead activities such as Streetz Fest 2026.
