Streetz Ahead & Platinum Performing Arts Present: Shoemaker – Written by Elizabeth Lahav
A Hip-Hop Theatre Spectacle that Redefines Family, Identity, and Tradition
Prepare for an unforgettable experience as Streetz Ahead and Platinum Performing Arts unveil their latest production, Shoemaker, a bold and imaginative reimagining of The Elves and the Shoemaker. Through the dynamic medium of hip-hop theatre, this electrifying show fuses dance, rap, and storytelling to bring to life a story that resonates with the challenges of adapting to change.
Set in the heart of a family-owned shoe business, Shoemaker follows a quirky, close-knit family as they struggle to keep their traditional craft alive amidst relentless technological change. At the centre is the youngest son, whose recent ADHD diagnosis has left him torn between the soaring potential of his imagination and the demands of the factory floor. His mother fights to keep the family united, while his father holds fast to old-school ways, and his older brother, fiercely loyal to the family legacy, aims to sustain the factory no matter the obstacles.
Each family member’s dreams, strengths, and struggles play out in a high-energy spectacle that tackles neurodiversity, generational tensions, and the pressures of modernity with humour, pathos, and vibrant choreography. In a world where tradition meets the digital frontier, Shoemaker is an uplifting journey of resilience, self-discovery, and the enduring bonds of family.
But Shoemaker is more than just a performance—it’s an opportunity for personal growth. In partnership with Streetz Ahead, the production offers post-show wellbeing workshops for young audiences. These workshops create a safe, inclusive space for children to express and explore their mental health through art and animation, encouraging resilience, empathy, and a deeper understanding of their own identities.
Join us for Shoemaker: a powerful blend of art and social impact that promises to inspire audiences of all ages. Don’t miss this vibrant celebration of tradition, transformation, and the incredible power of human connection.
