Hip Hop to K-pop: Half Term Camp Highlights at Bernie Grant Arts Centre

During the half term, Streetz Ahead delivered an engaging and creative programme funded by Bernie Grant and Warner Music Group, welcoming 60 young people to explore the history of K-pop and its deep connections to hip hop and Black culture.
Across the week, participants learned about the origins of hip hop, its cultural impact, and how its sound, style and choreography have influenced global music scenes, including the rise of K-pop. Through discussions and practical workshops, the young people gained a deeper understanding of the importance of recognising the roots and pioneers behind the culture.
Creativity was central to the experience. The group worked together to create their own dance routines, taking inspiration from well-known choreography while adding their own originality and flair. Alongside this, they developed spoken word pieces and short dramatic performances that reflected what they had learned throughout the week.
The programme concluded with a production to the parents/careers, where acting, dance and spoken word came together in a powerful informative showcase. It was a celebration of culture, creativity and confidence, giving young people the space to learn, express themselves and shine.
A huge thank you to Warner Music Group and Bernie Grant Arts Centre for supporting initiatives that continue to uplift and educate the next generation through arts and culture.
