Young Londoners Fund Event

On Tuesday 6th December 2022, the Streetz Ahead team accompanied by six of their young dancers, were invited to the Young Londoners Fund Event at City Hall. The event was an opportunity to celebrate and thank organisations for their hardwork and progress made as recipients of the fund.

The event was packed with organisations and charities all supporting young Londoners. Streetz Ahead took to the stage with a vibrant celebratory performance that had the audience clapping along. Iga, Kyra, Mariam, Nanelia, Ruby & Shanaiya left the crowd super impressed and other organisations inspired! It was an unforgettable night for the girls as they all received certificates for their participation and the opportunity to meet the Deputy Major Joanne McCartney.

The event was a night to remember featuring spoken word, rap, inspirational stories, an art room and even a 360 camera for the girls to enjoy!

Streetz Ahead were amongst the second-round recipients for THE MAYOR’S YOUNG LONDONERS FUND for their project DANCE GIANTS in building emotional resilience and wellbeing in young people’s lives.

100 children from Haringey schools were involved in Dance Giants; a street and breakdance mentoring programme for children aged between 9 – 14 year olds. The Dance Giants and Mentors have been role models to the young people and they shared their own experiences of how the arts helped them overcome difficulties to make a success of their own lives.

The weekly activity sessions have consisted of high intensity breakdance and street dance training coupled with group mentoring sessions, working to build a toolbox of coping strategies and creative work that has developed their confidence and self-esteem. The young people worked towards an end of year production earlier this year at The Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham to celebrate their achievements and progression.
